About Plain Policy Guide
Plain Policy Guide publishes plain-English guides to car and life insurance. We focus especially on the moments when insurance gets complicated: after a DUI, a stack of tickets, an at-fault accident, a lapse in coverage or a suspended license, and when you are buying life insurance for the first time.
Why this site exists
Insurance rules are written in legal and industry language, and most of the information online is either written for professionals or written to sell a policy. People who need answers usually need them quickly, for example because they can't drive until a form is filed, or because their family depends on their income.
We try to do something simpler: explain what the rules actually say, show where each rule comes from and give you practical next steps.
What we cover
- Car insurance basics: what each coverage does, how much you need and how to pay less
- High-risk drivers: SR-22 and FR-44 filings, insurance after a DUI, tickets or accidents, and unusual situations
- Life insurance: term vs. whole life, how much coverage you need, costs, taxes and options for high-risk applicants
How we work
Every guide is built on primary sources wherever possible: state motor vehicle agencies, state laws, insurance regulators and the IRS. When we use figures from other publishers, such as average premiums, we name the source and the date of the data. Each article lists its sources at the end and shows the date it was last checked. Read our full editorial policy.
What we are not
Plain Policy Guide is an independent publisher. We are not an insurance company, agency, broker or law firm. We do not sell insurance, we cannot give you a quote and nothing on this site is legal, tax or insurance advice. For decisions about your specific case, talk to the relevant state agency, a licensed insurance agent, a tax professional or an attorney.
